| Elva Stukenberg began painting fifteen year ago. She works with oils, pastels, watercolors, pencil, as well as unique paintings on steer skulls. Being inspired by the Colorado mountains, she started taking classes in oil painting and studied with several artists to learn various styles and techniques. She also studied for several years at Yavapai Community College in the retirement class. Elva likes to paint Native American subjects as well as mountain scenery. Elva has a natural passion for painting in many mediums and varied subject matter. She spends her summers in the Colorado Rockies and winters in Arizona. Elva changed her occupation from an interior designer to artist and finds that art allows her to get her hands dirty which she says is fun. She likes to listen to music when she paints. She says she likes Spanish or Mexican music when she is painting Mexican people or scenes and religious music when painting religious paintings. Elva also enjoys being involved with Art related Associations. She is a member of the Chaffee County Council of the Arts, where she has earned awards for several consecutive years. She is a member of the Art of the Rockies Association in Salida, Colorado and the Art Guild in Arizona. Elva finds exposure to other creative people enriching and stimulating. Elva enjoys plain air painting here in the Rockies. She loves the river, enjoys fishing and all things of nature and history of the area. It has been said that her use of colors is arresting and the overwhelming impression of her art is one of light - light emanating from the paints and from the personality of their creator. Art is and has been good therapy and Elva is glad to share her gifts with others. | |
